Phillips congratulates Gelhardt and McKinstry after their Leeds debut
Joe Gelhardt and Stuart McKinstry came off the bench to make their debut for Leeds United in a 6-5 penalty shootout win over Fulham on Tuesday.
The score at the end of 90 minutes was 0-0 with neither side managing to break the deadlock.
However, it was the Whites who held their nerves in the shootout and despite misses from Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw, managing to secure a spot in the next round.
After the game, Kalvin Phillips took to Instagram to thank the fans and also send a message to the two Leeds debutants.
He wrote, “Get in, through to the next round. Thanks to everyone who came down to support us.
“Congrats Stuart McKinstry and Joe Gelhardt on your debut.”

Good result
While there were still a few players who didn’t seem like they were performing at their very best, overall the Leeds side will take the win no matter how it comes.
There were nervy moments in the shootout, but they showed great courage to overcome them.
Gelhardt himself took a penalty under pressure and coolly slotted it home, showing plenty of promise.
After coming on, he did not register too many touches, but it’s understandable, given that it was his first outing for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
McKinstry, who came off for Crysencio Summerville, was tidy with the ball at his feet and boasted a 100 percent pass accuracy. [Sofascore]
Much like Gelhardt, he also stepped up to take a penalty and succeeded in putting the ball into the back of the net.
While we’re not expecting to see them play in the Premier League all of a sudden, they’re undoubtedly on the right track to getting there.
