Phillips and White react as Forshaw makes first Leeds appearance in two years
Adam Forshaw made his first appearance for Leeds United in two years during a friendly 3-2 victory over National League North outfit Guiseley last night [Tuesday].
The midfielder, 29, last saw first-team action in September 2019, with a serious hip injury which required surgery ensuring he missed a large chunk of Whites’ promotion campaign and their first season back in the Premier League.
A youthful Leeds team featured in the first pre-season friendly, and Forshaw came off the bench for the final 30 minutes of the clash.
He was pleased to finally make his return, taking to his to put up an emotional post.
Whites midfielder Kalvin Phillips and former loanee Ben White were both pleased for the midfielder, taking to the comments section to react.
Like a new signing?
It would take some time for Forshaw to hit full fitness and start playing regularly again, but could he eventually become a top player for us?
Leeds really could do with quality additions in the middle of the park, and with landing one proving herculean this summer, just maybe we could get what we are looking for in the former Middlesbrough star.
Whites head coach Marcelo Bielsa has claimed the midfielder has the right attributes for a Champions League side [The Athletic], but 2021-22 could be his last chance to prove his fitness and quality, with just 12 months remaining on his current contract.
Forshaw joined us in January 2018 and has made 49 Championship appearances since then.
He is currently looking to prove himself in training that he can still do something in the top-flight after 35 appearances for Everton and Middlesbrough, and we can only hope things work out this time around.
It is not the first time that he has been on the verge of a first-team comeback, returning to action and playing 82 minutes in an under-23s match vs Aston Villa in April 2021, only to sustain a minor hamstring injury which kept him out for a while.
It could be the last chance saloon for Forshaw and we are eager to see if he can turn his fortunes around.
