Phil Thompson has predicted that Leeds United will finally return to winning ways on Saturday when they welcome Bristol City to Elland Road.
Leeds have won just one of their last seven Championship fixtures and are now level on points with Fulham in third, just three points ahead of seventh-placed Bristol City ahead of this weekend’s action.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side may have failed to win against Brentford on Tuesday as they drew 1-1 at Griffin Park but the Whites still put in an impressive performance that, without a mistake by goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, may well have resulted in a victory.
Liverpool legend Thompson has predicted that Leeds will take that performance at Brentford and use the momentum to earn themselves a 2-1 win against Lee Johnson’s side on Saturday.
“I am expecting Leeds to kick on. They will be feeling good after the Brentford game,” said Thompson, as quoted on Sky Sports’ website.
It is bold to say that Leeds will win against Bristol City simply because of their decent performance at Brentford on Tuesday night.
Has Thompson forgotten how well the Robins played on Wednesday?
Although they conceded a couple of goals in the last half an hour, Johnson’s men were brilliant in their 3-2 victory against Derby County at Ashton Gate.
After an hour, the Robins were 3-0 up and showed real signs that they are a team to take seriously in the race for promotion.
There’s not much of a gap between Bristol City and Leeds going into the action this weekend and the visitors need to be respected.
In other Leeds United news, Michael Brown has questioned if this rarely-seen Leeds player will want a spot in Bielsa’s starting line-up.
