Phil Hay: Three Leeds United players to return from injury v Aston Villa

Leeds United will welcome back three players from injury for their Premier League clash against Aston Villa, as shared by Phil Hay.

Charlie Cresswell, Adam Forshaw and Jamie Shackleton are now available after their individual problems in recent weeks and months.

Shackleton has been out the longest of those three, missing since the 7-0 thumping at Manchester City back in December.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Hay confirmed the news as shared by Marcelo Bielsa this morning.

“Forshaw, Shackleton and Cresswell are all recovered,” he wrote.

“Absentees at Villa will be Firpo, Phillips, Cooper and Bamford. Bielsa still thinks the beginning of March for Phillips and Cooper to be fully ready.”

Numbers.

Although it may not seem like massive news, having these players back available will mean that there will be some senior experience on the bench.

We have gone far too long relying on the likes of 15-year-old Archie Gray to fill a sit on the bench, but that will all change on Wednesday.

Shackleton is a great option to have, as the youngster can fill numerous different positions such as right-back and the heart of midfield if he is needed.

Leeds will be most thankful that Forshaw isn’t out for too long, with huge concern after he was forced off at West Ham with what looked like a serious hamstring problem.

Forshaw will likely start at Villa Park, with this winter break having done wonders for his recovery and fitness.

This news will give some a newfound confidence ahead of the trip, with players finally starting to return – bring it on.
