Phil Hay spotted Leeds star with left leg in ‘heavy brace’ at Elland Rd last night

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has revealed the extent of Kalvin Phillips’ knee injury after he saw the Leeds United midfielder last night (Thursday).

Phillips, 24, was ruled out for the rest of the season after injuring his knee in the 1-0 win against Swansea but still turned up to Elland Road to support his team-mates as they beat Barnsley 1-0 to move within an inch of securing promotion.

Former Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Hay spotted Phillips as Leeds beat the Tykes and has described what he saw on a Q&A session on The Athletic website.

“Kalvin Phillips also with the squad but is out of the last three games. He’s got a heavy brace on his left leg,” Hay wrote.

Phillips has had a magnificent season for Leeds and it is such an injustice that he is not able to be on the pitch as the Whites see out their return to the Premier League.

Without the future England international, Leeds have not looked the same team this season.

Ben White is good enough to step forward and play in the defensive midfield role but he is simply no Phillips when called upon to play there.

That was clear on Thursday night as Leeds struggled to beat Barnsley.

It was a massive, massive result but the performance was just about one of the worst under Marcelo Bielsa. Definitely the worst performance that has led to a win, anyway.

White cannot be blamed for his display and his impact on the side, it was largely down to the simple fact that Phillips wasn’t there.

We hope he can make a miraculous recovery to play against Charlton but there’s no doubt he will be there to cheer on his team-mates and revel in any celebrations that occur.

In other Leeds United news, players were blown away by their team-mates display with Eddie Nketiah also reacting.
