Phil Hay shares Willy Gnonto injury update as Leeds United star forced off v Hull City – ‘heavy limp’

Phil Hay has shared an update on Willy Gnonto after the Leeds United winger was forced off with an injury in the 0-0 draw against Hull City on Wednesday (20 September).

The Athletic journalist tweeted on Wednesday that the Italian international looked to be carrying a “heavy limp” before he was substituted by Crysencio Summerville on 21 minutes at the MKM Stadium.

The 19-year-old was injured when making a challenge on Tigers midfielder Regan Slater, with Hay claiming the Whites forward signalled immediately that he was in pain.

“Gnonto hurt after challenging a Hull player on halfway,” said Hay. “Signalled that he was in pain straight away. Physios on for treatment.

“Looked like Slater he challenged after the ball went loose outside the centre circle. Heavy limp on him as he goes to the sidelines.”

Concerning

It will be pretty concerning for all those associated with Leeds to see that Gnonto picked up an injury early on in the game against Hull.

The winger looked to really be struggling following the coming together with Slater despite coming back on as he tried to play through the pain.

That perhaps wasn’t the best move, though, as he never really looked comfortable and it seemed like a matter of time before he would have to go off.

Leeds United fans

Although the Italian hasn’t been that consistent with his performances at the start of this season, he has undoubted quality and would be a loss if he were to miss any time.

Daniel Farke will now be hoping the injury isn’t as bad as it originally looked like it could be and he is back available for selection before too long.
