Phil Hay shares when Georginio Rutter will make Leeds United debut after club-record transfer
Georginio Rutter cannot make his Leeds United debut against Cardiff City when the two sides take each other in the FA Cup on 18 January.
According to the Athletic’s Phil Hay [15 January], he will make his debut against Brentford next weekend on Sunday, 22 January.
However, Rutter will be introduced to the Elland Road crowd during the FA Cup game in the middle of the week.
Leeds have been looking for a first-team striker since the summer but did not sign anyone in that window.
Going into January, Jesse Marsch himself said that a striker is something that he wants and he’s now got his man.
Clubs usually save the big money for summer pursuits as certain players are not available in January, but the Whites had no problem smashing their transfer record.
It remains to be seen if Marsch throws him straight into the starting eleven or brings him off the bench in the first few games.
Moving to the Premier League has often been difficult for players from the Bundesliga so that surely will be one of the manager’s concerns.
We’re hoping that this signing addresses the club’s attacking woes not just for this season but for the long term as well.
Rutter is 20 and has an incredibly high ceiling so it makes sense to shell out that kind of money as he could either be at the club for the next decade or get so good that if he wants to leave, Leeds could make twice of what they paid to bring him to the club.
