Phil Hay shares what Leeds source told him about Radrizzani & rent payments for Elland Rd

Andrea Radrizzani used Greenfield Investment Pte. to buy Elland Road in 2017 as one of his first acts as the owner of Leeds United.

Radrizzani wasted no time in trying to prove he can be the man to take Leeds forward after buying the Yorkshire club from Massimo Cellino and buying Elland Road back was a huge move.

However, it wasn’t a move that would be free for the club. But, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay, Radrizzani isn’t interesting it taking any rent payments while the club is in the Championship and while he is injecting capital.

Leeds were reportedly granted a rent-free period of 33 months when Radrizzani brought the stadium back from Manchester businessman Jacob Adler.

According to one of Hay’s sources at Leeds, “there is no logic in [Radrizzani] withdrawing cash via rent when much of the money going into the accounts is his in the first place”.

So far, it understood that there is £3million’s worth accrued rent that has been listed due to accounting reasons but Leeds say that Radrizzani has not received a penny in rent.

Leeds’ latest financial figures are no surprise at all.

Marcelo Bielsa’s first season in charge at Elland Road was an expensive one as not only did Radrizzani have to pay the wages of the Argentine, but he also had to meet his requirements to be in charge.

Things like recommissioning the swimming pool at Thorp Arch and installing a new running track at the training ground were things that Bielsa wanted doing while the Leeds boss also wanted more ways of analysing games and training with more video technology.

All of it, so far, has been worth every penny.

In other Leeds United news, this Whites star could be the club’s very own James Milner.
