Phil Hay shares what he’s repeatedly told about Stuart Dallas injury at Leeds United
Stuart Dallas’s recovery from a long-term leg injury looks to be “going in the right direction”, according to the Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
The 31-year-old Whites veteran has been out of action since the end of April in 2022 after suffering a serious leg injury against Manchester City.
The Northern Ireland midfielder was left hospitalised after the incident, and it’s been reported that the aim for his return was to have him back before the end of the season.
Hay, speaking in his Leeds United column for The Athletic website [28 February] said: “RE: Dallas. His aim was always to be back before the end of the season but neither he nor the club were setting any more ambitious targets like that.
“Every time I ask it sounds like he’s going in the right direction – so hopefully he’s not a million miles off.
“It was a major injury and was inevitably going to take a long time to recover from.”
No rush
Dallas potentially returning from his unlucky injury at the end of the season is a welcome boost for the Whites, but it is hugely unlikely he’d be able to feature again until well into the 2023/24 campaign.
There is simply no need to rush him back soon as this was a really serious and major injury which he suffered last year, and such a recovery must be taken with incredible care and consideration.
The 31-year-old enjoyed a tremendous two years in the English top flight after the club’s promotion registering nine goals and three assists.
There’s no doubt Dallas is an incredible figure at Elland Road, but with Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen already filling his right-back role, it’s important the club waits a while longer to wish him a very welcome return to the first team picture.
He still holds a major role to play for the club, but for now, it must remain behind the scenes.
