Phil Hay shares what he saw Jesse Marsch do after Patrick Bamford injury in Leeds United v Southampton

Phil Hay spotted Jesse Marsch in talks with his coaches as Patrick Bamford got injured in the 2-2 Leeds United draw against Southampton.

Despite leading by two goals, the Whites came away from Saturday’s game with just one point.

In the second half, Bamford looked like he was struggling initially, before finally being taken off.

Via Twitter, Hay wrote, “Marsch, his coaches and Rob Price deep in conversation after a chat between Marsch and Bamford. Bamford looked a little like he was holding his leg but he’s playing on.”

Sky Sports pundit Dave Edwards, who was on commentary on the Premier League world feed, said, “Devastated for him. You can see him holding his right groin for the last 5-10 minutes.”

Can’t catch a break

Bamford looked like he underwent an important pre-season regime and looked set to start the new campaign all guns blazing.

However, in just the second game, he’s had to be injured and we’re unsure if it’s going to be a short term or a long term absence.

With no strikers being signed, there’s a good chance that Rodrigo leads the line for the next game.

Dan James replacing Bamford clearly did not work out as Marsch would have wanted and if there’s no new number nine signed until next week, he cannot afford to start the Welshman.

Playing Mateusz Klich as a 10 would see Rodrigo playing as the lone striker and that’s a position that he’s certainly comfortable to play in.

It remains to be seen if Victor Orta goes into overdrive this weekend or leaves the remaining transfer business until the final days of the window.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
