Phil Hay shares three-word update on Patrick Bamford for Leeds United showdown v Tottenham
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is “almost certainly out” of their crucial Premier League final-day clash against Tottenham at Elland Road on Sunday [28 May], according to Phil Hay.
It’s been a rather difficult couple weeks for the Elland Road favourite after his penalty miss in the 2-2 draw against Newcastle United led to several online abuse and unrest over his performances.
Bamford then came off injured in the first half of their disappointing 3-1 defeat to West Ham last weekend, leaving them rooted to the relegation places, two points from safety with just a game to go.
And according to The Athletic journalist Hay, writing in his article [25 May], Sam Allardyce has some big decisions to make ahead of the game.
“Patrick Bamford is almost certainly out. They will try to hold Rodrigo together with string. No Tyler Adams and no Luis Sinisterra. Just another day at Elland Road.”

The Elland Road fan favourite has struggled to find his best form again this past year after returning from a long injury layoff back in February 2022.
Since then he’s only managed a handful of goals with many arguing that he is past his best and incapable of dragging the club out of trouble.
In fact, when Leeds United have needed him to come up trumps these past few weeks and months, the striker has been nowhere to be seen.
Spanish international Rodrigo only returned to fitness last month and has already scored twice in his four outings since meaning he certainly remains Leeds United best hope of claiming a win on Sunday and survival.
However, the former Valencia man did suffer a knock against West Ham and Hay is absolutely right, Allardyce will be attempting to wrap him up in cotton wool as his 13 goals this season have proven so crucial to their season. If not for those goals, Leeds United will have suffered the same fate as Southampton already.
Yes, Bamford’s injury comes at a bad time but it’s clear he isn’t the Whites’ best hope any longer. Rodrigo is.
