Phil Hay shares new Leeds United negative from Elland Road amid Tottenham goals

Fans at Elland Road responded to Leeds United conceding to Tottenham by booing the players for the first time, according to Phil Hay.

After Pascal Struijk missed a great chance to head the home side into a much-needed lead inside the first few minutes the visitors punished the Whites with three goals to take a comfortable lead into the half.

Matt Doherty’s opener was quickly followed by a second from Dejan Kulusevski, which was greeted by boos from the United supporters.

On his personal Twitter account from the ground, The Athletic’s Phil Hay wrote: “Confidence, judgement…it’s all taking a hammering.

“A few boos after that second goal which is the first time we’ve heard that at ER this season.

“You can’t concede goals as easily and regularly as this.”

Harry Kane subsequently added a third before the half-time whistle which was itself greeted by another barrage of boos from the home crowd.

Groundhog day

Both sides came into the game on the back of poor runs of form and with pressure on the managers.

Marcelo Bielsa’s methods are in the spotlight after conceding 16 goals over four games and seeing his side dragged into the relegation zone.

Despite the shock win at Manchester City, Antonio Conte’s future was in doubt following his reaction to a third defeat in four against Burnley in midweek.

But while the visitors came up with a considerable reaction to put their boss in a much improved mood, it was more of the same for the hosts.

A stirring fight back against Manchester United wasn’t enough to overcome the leaky defence in a 4-2 defeat, before they were blown away 6-0 at Anfield.

The Whites badly needed a lift from the visit of Tottenham but were unable to take advantage of their recent deficiencies, while allowing their own to be picked on once again.

And the crowd was unsurprisingly upset to see the same issues.

In other Leeds United news, Glenn Hoddle was stunned by what Pascal Striujk did in the first half at Elland Road.
