Phil Hay shares Leeds United manager update as interview process now over

Phil Hay has shared the latest on the quest to find the next Leeds United manager with face-to-face interviews now finished.

The Athletic journalist reported on 23 June that interviews over Zoom had taken place with around 10 different candidates.

After this, a shortlist emerged which saw Paraag Marathe fly down from the United States to interview the selected ones in person and 2 July is a key date to get this over the line.

Methodical?

In his piece, Hay mentions the fact that the 49ers are methodical about their business and do not rush into big decisions such as this one.

That makes a lot of sense as there did not seem to be too much deliberation in hiring Jesse Marsch hours after the decision was made to sack Marcelo Bielsa.

The same thing happened with Sam Allardyce as well as there did not appear to be any real thought process behind it bar the fact that he had the reputation of being a relegation specialist.

Hopefully, deciding to appoint Daniel Farke or Patrick Vieira or whoever the winning candidate is, will have taken a good amount of due diligence.

It’s not easy to take over a club that’s just been relegated, especially the size of Leeds, given the fact that there’s going to be a major upheaval in the squad.

A lot of players’ futures may depend on who the new manager is and if it’s not someone they feel can take Leeds back up, they may want out.

In other Leeds United, a BT Sport pundit has delivered an “Incredible” verdict as a frontrunner has emerged for the Elland Road hot seat.
