Phil Hay shares Leeds United injury news on Georginio Rutter v Watford

Phil Hay has shared a Leeds United injury update after Georginio Rutter was left “hurt” following a foul against Watford on Saturday 23 September.

Despite heading into the half-time break level, the Whites’ dominance told in the second period, with goals from Joel Piroe, Sam Byram and Jaidon Anthony ensuring all three points remained at Elland Road.

21-year-old forward Rutter had a tough opening period for Daniel Farke’s side, having two shots and should have likely scored with one, but he turned it on after the knock, embarrassing the away team with ease at times.

Describing the clash, Hay tweeted (23 September): “Party piece from Rutter to spin out of pressure, great skill, but then fouled and hurt in the challenge. Receiving treatment. 29th min.”

All good

Despite the heavy clash, Rutter was fit to continue and remained bright for the remainder of the first half, even managing to find his way into the referee’s book after strike partner Joel Piroe gave away a foul as he attempted to block a quick free-kick.

With Wilfried Gnonto out with injury and Patrick Bamford not yet fit to play a part in Farke’s side, had Rutter been unable to continue, the Whites would have quickly looked rather short of genuine striking options.

Joe Gelhadrt remains rooted to the bench but hasn’t yet shown that he is capable of leading the Leeds frontline, so Farke cannot afford to lose any more of his forward options to injury, at least until Bamford is fit and ready to be included in a match day squad.

In terms of Rutter’s performance, the Frenchman was once again incredibly bright and really should have scored his third league goal of the season. It looks like a very clever decision from Farke and those above him at Elland Road to have kept him despite interest this summer.
