Phil Hay shares latest Cody Drameh update, Leeds United to make 'interesting' January decision

Cody Drameh’s lack of minutes at Leeds United this season has left the 21-year-old eyeing up a possible Elland Road exit in January with Phil Hay sharing an interesting January is ahead.

Jesse Marsch faces a huge right-back headache in January. New signing Rasmus Kristensen has often been his first choice this season, but club vice-captain Luke Ayling is now back fit and demanding minutes – as is Drameh who is desperate for game time to accelerate his development.

If Drameh doesn’t get his wish in Yorkshire, Fabrizio Romano reports that Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille and Newcastle United are all keeping a keen eye on him as a future star.

It’s a make-or-break situation for Marsch, and Hay has chimed in to label Drameh’s Elland Road situation as “interesting” ahead of the window.

Via Twitter, he posted: “Drameh. Clearly wants to play more but there’s something to be made of him. Has talent. Interesting to see what Leeds do next month.”

Big decision

Regardless of what Marsch chooses to do, he’s bound to upset someone in the Leeds United dressing room.

Kristensen’s £10million fee [The Athletic] makes him extremely hard to drop, Ayling’s experience and leadership makes him a vital part of the squad but Drameh’s huge potential would make losing him a massive regret down the line.

Marsch is stuck between a rock and a hard place, but prioritising the future of the club seems like the smartest option in this case.

Ayling’s already contributed massively to the club and while his leadership in what is a very young dressing room is crucial, he’s the most likely to accept a part-time role in the squad.

Drameh is clearly at breaking point and wants guaranteed minutes or a move away in January. But he’s one of the club’s most exciting prospects and letting him go seems nonsensical, especially as question marks still exist over Kristensen’s performances.

It may seem as though Marsch is bowing down to his demands, but giving Drameh his requested game time might be the club’s best option this season.
