Phil Hay shares if Leeds United summer signing Darko Gyabi likely to play v Wolves in Carabao Cup clash

Phil Hay has shared that Leeds United summer signing Darko Gyabi should make his debut since his move from Manchester City.

The 18-year-old has played for the under-21s since moving to Elland Road, but has been named in the travelling squad for the Whites.

However, Willy Gnonto could be considered for a greater role against Spurs so Hay does not know whether or not he’ll be handed a start.

In his Athletic Q&A he wrote, “Gyabi should get a go tonight, I agree. I suppose the consideration with Gnonto will be whether his explosive impact last weekend puts him in the reckoning for a bigger role against Spurs.”

Must start

Despite not playing a single minute of senior football thus far, Gyabi fetched a multi-million fee over the summer which suggests that there’s something to him.

Leeds would not just randomly throw money at highly-rated prospects based on what agents suggest as they do their due diligence.

Gyabi’s signing surprised many and it led to speculation that he could be a first-team signing.

That hasn’t happened so far but things can change if he goes on to have a good game against Wolves on Wednesday night with the pressure off.

Jesse Marsch will also be relaxed after two good results so this is not going to be a must-win for him and he can afford to give few youngsters their debut right from the start.

Gyabi is one such player we’re expecting to be named in the starting eleven and if not, he’s very likely to come off the bench.

He has been labelled “Exceptional” by Neil Harris who was Millwall’s first-team manager at the time and we’re excited to see how he has progressed since then.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now be looking to sign an award-winning Ligue 1 ace and bring him to Elland Road in January.
