Phil Hay shares if Leeds United are in talks to extend Crysencio Summerville contract at Elland Road
Leeds United are not currently in ongoing talks with Crysencio Summerville about a new contract at Elland Road, according to Phil Hay.
Speaking on The Square Ball (16 February), The Athletic journalist admitted that he expects talks to take place at some point due to the winger’s excellent form this season in the Championship.
But currently no talks are ongoing, and with interest expected in the summer window from a host of Premier League clubs it could lead to even more bids being made after Burnley made an attempt to sign him last summer.
“Interestingly nothing yet with Summerville, who does have a long deal, but the form that he is in this season is going to naturally lead at some point to that discussion, but it’s not ongoing at the moment.”
Leeds United know patience is a virtue
There should be absolutely no rush to put a new deal on the table with improved terms, because the season isn’t even nearly over yet at this point. It’s different to Gnonto who is close to a new deal, because he is criminally underpaid after initially being signed as a youth player.
Yes Summerville has been fantastic, and yes he is one of the best players in the squad at this point, but there are no guarantees that the club will be back in the Premier League next season.
Giving him a new contract on improved terms to show that spot in the squad will mean rather little if Leeds don’t get promoted, as he will surely still be keen to play at the highest level.

Daniel Farke has previously spoken about not wanting to have release clauses in his players’ contracts as it means Leeds have little negotiating power, so that would surely not be an option to be discussed either.
There is enough time on his contract where it can be postponed until the summer and then spoken about when there is a clear vision for what the future holds, but fans will no doubt be fearing the worst.
