Phil Hay shares 'critical' Jesse Marsch view hours before Leeds United v Brentford
Phil Hay has suggested the Premier League clash against Brentford is a “critical moment” in Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United career to date.
The Whites are set to be without Crysencio Summerville, Adam Forshaw, Archie Gray and Stuart Dallas for the fixture against Thomas Frank’s side.
The Athletic journalist has claimed it’s time for the American to deliver after being backed by the board in the January window.
“The absentees today are Summerville, Forshaw, Gray and Dallas. From what Marsch said on Friday, everyone else should be fit,” said Hay (Athletic Q and A, 22 January).
“This is a critical moment for Marsch, no? A win over Cardiff in the cup behind him, a £30m striker on board, a need to deliver – as he’s admitted himself.”
All Leeds United fans are after is a bit of consistency in the Premier League. This squad is littered with exciting talent across the pitch and there’s certainly the potential for this side to grow and develop further. In attacking areas the Whites are extremely exciting and in Willy Gnonto they could have a potential superstar on their hands.
The board and recruitment department deserve credit for unearthing players such as Gnonto – and they will be hoping new addition Georginio Rutter can make a similar impact. The 20-year-old is likely to feature on the bench on Sunday (22 January), having missed a couple of training sessions whilst finalising his move to Elland Road.
Marsch really needs a positive result here. The FA Cup demolition of Cardiff has shown what this side is capable of and it’s now time for that to be translated to their Premier League campaign.
Leeds do have a game in hand over their relegation rivals, but they are still dangerously close to the dotted line at present.
