Phil Hay shares behind-the-scenes Leeds United development with decision close

Michael Skubala is reportedly among the final candidates left in the race to become the next Under-21 Leeds United manager.

According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, he would replace Mark Jackson who has been promoted to Jesse Marsch’s senior side.

Skubala has been working with the Football Association, first as their futsal coach and now as a consultant for the men’s first team.

Good choice?

With Jackson moving to work with the senior team, it was imperative that Leeds found a replacement before the season started.

By the looks of it, they have narrowed in on their desired option and it will be interesting to see how it transpires.

Futsal coaches usually tend to be more focused on the tempo and train players to play their way out of tight spaces which improve their touches and general positional play.

With few experienced coaches in the youth setup, it would be good to have someone like Skubala bring in his philosophy.

He’s also worked with the England team that’s got players who have made it to the World Cup semi-finals and the Euro finals so he’s got the experience of working with big names and big egos.

His lessons will surely be imparted to the Leeds youngsters and we may see a more boisterous atmosphere at Thorp Arch in the coming months.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have submitted a fresh bid to sign their first-choice target this summer as a Champions League club has pulled out of the deal.
