Phil Hay shares 5-word response from Bielsa sources on Real Betis job, contract clause detailed

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been linked with a move to Real Betis, although it seems that it’s a very one-sided courtship.

Athletic journalist Phil Hay has spoken to sources close to Bielsa who have told him there is “absolutely nothing in this issue”.

They are convinced that he has his mind set on one thing and that’s Premier League football with Leeds next season.

Hay did concede that his contract “will need renegotiating and there is an inevitable list of demands he would make” but if Leeds go up, barring any fallout, it looks like Bielsa is here to stay.

Hay also revealed that Leeds have a clause in Bielsa’s contract that would see them compensated if he left to take up a job elsewhere.

Bielsa doesn’t seem like the sort of manager who would drop a job to take another one up and he seems fully invested in Leeds – the club and the challenge of getting them up to the Premier League.

However, it’s been said often that should Leeds fail to win promotion this season, that Bielsa will not stay for a third season in the Championship.

That means it’s all or nothing this season, which is why it was such a relief to finally give a side a skewering on Saturday.

Hull were blown off the park and after Luke Ayling’s admission that the dressing room was down after a recent bad run, this will do the players the world of good.
