Leeds United were forced into a couple of changes in before their 4-3 victory against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
Marcelo Bielsa dropped Kiko Casilla entirely and replaced Pablo Hernandez with Rodrigo after the Spaniard picked up an injury in the warm-up.
It was confirmed that Hernandez had tweaked his groin before the clash, but there was no word on what had happened with Casilla.
The controversial stopper captained the side in the Carabao Cup defeat against Hull City on penalties on Wednesday evening.
Phil Hay claimed that Casilla was at Elland Road for the game, and was sitting in the stand and having a laugh with teammates during the victory.
But what kept him out of the squad? The Athletic journalist confirmed in a post-match Q&A that he had picked up an injury this week.
“If Casilla stays, I don’t think they will,” he wrote. “Casilla had a foot injury.”
Illan Meslier, as mentioned in this question, looked unbelievably fragile against Fulham, and if we were being strict, he could have prevented all three goals.
That isn’t something that should automatically make the Whites start searching for a new stopper, although Casilla’s injury leaves them with no experience in that department.
This injury shouldn’t be a problem, with the former Real Madrid man having no real backing from the Leeds faithful after he was found guilty of racially abusing Jonathan Leko last season.
Just because he remains at the club, doesn’t mean he should be handed starts, and the sooner he leaves, is potentially the better.
