Phil Hay: Rene Maric to join Leeds United next week, Jesse Marsch completes backroom staff
Leeds United have agreed to appoint Rene Maric as Jesse Marsch’s new assistant at Elland Road, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist has reported that the former Borussia Dortmund assistant will link up with the club next week upon their return from Australia.
The 29-year-old has agreed to a deal after Chris Armas turned down an offer to join Marsch in West Yorkshire due to personal reasons this summer.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Hay shared the details behind the deal which now sees Marsch’s backroom staff fully complete ahead of the new season.
“Leeds United close to appointing former Borussia Dortmund assistant Rene Maric as Jesse Marsch’s new number two,” he wrote.
“Talks were held with Chris Armas but Maric is in line to join the coaching staff.”
Smart.
Maric looks like a very smart appointment behind-the-scenes.
Despite being so young, the 29-year-old has racked up brilliant experience with Borussia Dortmund before leaving once Marco Rose was relieved of his duties last season.
Armas would have been a smart appointment too, so it looks as though Marsch is targeting the right men as he looks to build his team ahead of his first full season in charge.
Leeds have one more friendly against Cagliari before it all kicks off once again with Wolves up first at Elland Road in the Premier League in two weeks’ time.
Maric will be hoping to get in and around the squad before then and integrate into the group where he can help get his ideas across alongside Marsch.
Andrea Radrizzani has backed his new-ish manager heavily this summer in terms of transfers and now his staff, so now it is time for him to repay that faith.
Bring it on.
