Bielsa currently on holiday with wife, Leeds United sack reaction expected - Phil Hay

Phil Hay doesn’t expect to hear Marcelo Bielsa say anything about Leeds United unless he gets a new job.

Bielsa was sacked by the Whites last month and has since been replaced by Jesse Marsch, who’s overseen a change in fortunes at Elland Road.

However, Leeds fans still adore Bielsa and would love to hear from the former manager after all the brilliant work he’d done in West Yorkshire.

The Athletic journalist Hay says that since being sacked, Bielsa is spending time with his wife in South America but is still likely to take another job.

“If he takes another job (and he might well do) then no doubt he’ll speak about Leeds. Otherwise, he’s unlikely to go looking for attention,” Hay on The Athletic website.

“From what I can gather, he’s in good spirits and he’s been holidaying with his wife back home in South America.

“Hopefully, he’s able to reflect on his tenure as the phenomenon it was.”

When asked if a friendly against Bielsa’s old club Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina, Hay added: “A pre-season trip to Rosario would be a treat but I don’t think that will be happening.”

Well-earned rest

Bielsa would have no doubt had a tough time in England.

While he did a superb job at Leeds, on a personal level, he was here alone with his wife remaining in South America.

That surely would have been tough for the Argentine, especially throughout the worst parts of the COVID-19 pandemic when he couldn’t leave the country to see her or vice versa.

However, the Leeds hero is now spending as much time as possible with her and we love to know that.

Bielsa does seem as though he could be returning to management soon, although it looks like the 66-year-old’s next job could be closer to home.

He’s been linked with the manager’s job in charge of Bolivia’s national team.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Bolivian FA president Fernando Costa has confirmed that he’s sought out the former Leeds manager and is set to hold talks with him.

It’ll be a tough job, but so was the job at Leeds, and we wish Bielsa the very best in what he decides to do next.

In other Leeds United news, a player who had a move to Leeds blocked by Bielsa would be perfect for Marsch.
