Phil Hay names three players Leeds United could sign in January, Diogo Monteiro deal ‘in the pipeline’

Leeds United could complete a double signing before the end of the January window, as reported by Phil Hay.

Writing for The Athletic, the reliable journalist reports that the Whites are more confident about landing Diogo Monteiro, and a deal is “in the pipeline” for the young Portuguese centre-back.

However, a “new and proven midfielder” is Angers’ Azzedine Ounahi and Juventus’ Weston McKennie and either would be welcome at Elland Road if the price is right.

Get it done

Leeds will be very happy with their activities in the January window as the transfer deadline is on the horizon.

The club needed to sign a left-back and a striker, and they have landed both. The question now remains whether they can add depth in any more positions.

The Whites signed Max Wober and Georginio Rutter this month, but they probably need to sign one more midfielder.

The club lost Mateusz Klich this month after they allowed him to join DC United, and either Ounahi and McKennie would be a fantastic replacement.

Ounahi was outstanding in the World Cup in Qatar for Morocco. He was able to take his game to a whole new level and his price has skyrocketed.

The Whites have scouted him properly but Angers’ asking price is proving to be a stumbling block, and Leeds have not progressed talks over the move.

McKennie has made 70 Serie A appearances for Juventus and has got Champions League experience as well. He is a versatile midfielder who can play box-to-box or in a deeper midfield role.
