Phil Hay makes Leeds joke as Newcastle takeover imminent

Phil Hay has made a Leeds United joke about the word ‘imminent’ as Newcastle are reportedly set to be taken over by the Saudi Arabian state.

The Whites signed Dan James this summer, but that transfer was expected to have gone through in January 2019.

James had arrived at the club and everything was done with regards to the transfer, but his signing from Swansea fell through at the last minute and he ended up returning to the Liberty Stadium before joining Manchester United that summer.

Via his personal Twitter account, Hay wrote, “Good to see the ‘imminent’ baton has well and truly passed on from Leeds.”

Phew

Hay’s the most reliable source there is for all things Leeds but we can always count on him for having a good laugh too.

His tongue-in-cheek comments like this one are why the Elland Road faithful admire him to such a great deal.

That being said, the Newcastle takeover has been over a year in the making and it finally seems to be coming to fruition.

Leeds United

What this means for the Premier League remains anyone’s guess but this certainly sets a dangerous precedent in terms of ownership of clubs.

We’re glad to have an owner like Andrea Radrizzani and would not be sure how we felt if a Saudi-esque takeover ever happened at Leeds.

That’s not something we’re worried about as the Italian seems to be taking this club forward and this is one the best times in history to be a fan of this wonderful club.
