Phil Hay: Lewis O’Brien-Leeds deal appears to be dead

Phil Hay has insisted that any Leeds United move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien appears to be dead.

The Whites have been linked with a hijack on their West Yorkshire rivals all summer, but time is now running out to seal the deal.

Hay shared this month that the Terriers wanted £8million, but Leeds only value the box-to-box midfielder at half that price.

Writing on a Q&A for the Athletic, Hay shared that the proposed move appears to have hit the skids.

“The interest in O’Brien appears to be dead,” he wrote.

“No sign at all of either side shifting on valuation.”

Move on.

Marcelo Bielsa didn’t seem too disheartened when admitting after the Burnley clash that new signings were unlikely.

El Loco has welcomed Adam Forshaw back into the fold at Elland Road, and after nearly two years away, he will feel like a new signing.

Many believe that squad depth is becoming a real issue for the Whites, and adding O’Brien may have helped that significantly.

That isn’t going to force Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta to pay over the odds for a player that isn’t proven at Premier League level, though.

It’s time to move on, with O’Brien looking like he will remain linked rather than a Leeds player during this window.

Mateusz Klich will be back from his COVID-19 bout after the international break, and the Whites should be back to full-strength – O’Brien or not.
