Phil Hay: Leeds United still sorting out Sonny Perkins compensation with West Ham, will not be ‘hideous’ amount

Leeds United are still sorting out the compensation owed to West Ham United for the transfer of Sonny Perkins this summer, according to Phil Hay.

The young striker has started life in West Yorkshire with a sensational run of form, after rejecting new terms in London to make the move to Elland Road.

Leeds owe compensation due to his age, and the deal would go to tribunal to determine the fee if the two clubs cannot agree between themselves – something Hay doesn’t expect to be “hideous.”

Speaking in the latest episode of the Phil Hay Show podcast, the journalist shared the latest on the matter with the fee still needing to be ironed out.

“They’re still sorting out compensation with West Ham as far I’m aware,” he said.

“Unless it’s been done very, very recently, but it was still to be agreed. Although I don’t think it’s going to be a massive amount because of the contract he was offered at West Ham.

“I don’t think they will be paying hideous amounts of cash for Perkins.”

Wow.

This has been a sensational piece of business.

Perkins has been the in-form young Englishman this season in the Premier League 2, with his partner Mateo Joseph also catching all of the headlines alongside him.

West Ham will be raging seeing the young striker perform so well and charge towards the first-team, with still no money agreed after he left the London Stadium.

What makes it worst for them is that the fee isn’t expected to be too high either, meaning Leeds will likely pull off an absolute steal once everything is ironed out.

Jesse Marsch has been blown away by Perkins in games and in training so it may not be long until we see him on the senior stage whether in the cup or even the Premier League.

The sooner this compensation is sorted, the better, with his value no doubt sky rocketing above what we will eventually end up paying out.
