Phil Hay: Leeds United have room for additional resources

Phil Hay wrote for The Athletic today (15 January) that Leeds United have room for additional resources in the January window.

Signing a midfielder is a priority for the Whites with the club are hopeful Kalvin Phillips will return before schedule.

However, the club does have the resources to add another midfielder to their ranks this month, and they could be actively trying to take that route.

Hay wrote for The Atheltic: “Leeds are quietly hopeful that Phillips might beat his projected return date of March but as it stands, they have room for additional resources in both a defensive and attacking midfield capacity.”

Priority

It is a well-known secret that Leeds need to sign a midfielder in January.

As of now, the Whites are not close to signing any midfielder, but things can dramatically change as we approach the end of the window.

The club made a wise decision to extend the contract of Adam Forshaw who has been outstanding since returning from a long injury lay-off.

However, Forshaw is lacking supporting options in midfield.

Phillips could return before March, but he still needs match sharpness.

Getting a like-for-like replacement of Phillips is difficult, but Leeds will have to find a way.

Forshaw can play versatile midfield roles, and that could prompt Bielsa into signing an attacking-minded midfielder as well, someone who can score a lot from midfield.

The Argentine could also look to add another striker to his ranks this month, with Patrick Bamford having just returned for an injury lay-off and Joe Gelhardt being currently out injured.
