Phil Hay: Leeds United believe Jesse Marsch training will result in fewer injuries

Leeds United have reportedly done extensive analysis into Jesse Marsch’s training regimes and play load before hiring him.

According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, the club believe that it will lead to very few soft-tissue injuries which will be a welcome signing for the club’s medical department.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Murderball routines often led to the players picking up these kinds of injuries more frequently.

For the better?

It was always going to be a hard sell to the Leeds fanbase once the decision was made to part ways with Bielsa.

He had embedded himself in the culture of Elland Road and also the entire city of Leeds.

He embodied the lifestyle of a West Yorkshire working man and his brand of football, coupled by results, made him an amicable figure all around.

However, performances and results were stale and a change was certainly needed.

Bielsa was unlikely to bring about the change in his methods which only meant that he had to be replaced at the helm.

Marsch believes in the same principles as the Argentine but takes a slightly relaxed approach towards training.

He does not seem keen on putting the players through hell every time they step on to the practice field.

Whether or not this is the right way to approach things, remains to be seen, but the players will certainly receive a breather after years of heavy metal training.
