Leeds United are still “toying with the idea” of spending £20million on Dinamo Zagreb defender Josko Gvardiol, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist admitted that the Whites remain massive fans of the Croatian youngster, with his attributes fitting their style.
Pascal Struijk is currently the third-choice centre back at Elland Road, with the Whites losing Gaetano Berardi and Ben White from last season.
Hay delivered an update on the Gvardiol pursuit on Friday and suggested that the club are still “very keen” on the 18-year-old.
“They haven’t given up on Josko Gvardiol at Dinamo Zagreb,” he said on the Phil Hay show.
“Still very keen on him, on the basis of his attributes, but again just toying with the idea of whether £20million on him is the right deal at the time.”
The Mirror reported on Thursday that Leeds have been given a massive boost in their pursuit of Gvardiol, with Zagreb crashing out of the Champions League this week.
RB Leipzig are said to also be interested, but the Whites have reportedly offered more money to the Croatian club so far – making their bid more tempting.
Croatian journalist Ivan Zezelj exclusively told MOT Leeds News that Marcelo Bielsa could find his “perfect match” if he signed Gvardiol.
Zezelj did admit that spending near £20million for the 18-year-old would be a big risk though, but that Leeds could earn a massive profit further down the line if he was to succeed in West Yorkshire.
