Phil Hay: Leeds planned to install standing section this season

Leeds United learned the news this week that safe-standing sections had been given the green light in the Premier League.

The Sports Ground Safety Authority is now set to invite interest from clubs that would like to be involved in the pilot before the end of this season.

Phil Hay has been quizzed on where Leeds stand on this latest development, and it looks as though they could be involved.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Hay shared that the plan was to install a safe-standing section before the end of this season.

“Plan was to install some this season,” he wrote.

It is unknown where that section would be given how tightly cramped Elland Road can be at the best of times, and it would take some time to redevelop one part of the ground.

Cheese wedge?

The idea floating around it that the famous yellow corner joining the East and South stands could be where this section is placed.

It is uncertain whether that would be where it would go given the close proximity to the Family Stand at Elland Road.

The stand behind the goal is easily known as the rowdiest next to the away fans, and are often stood for the entire game anyway.

Placing it there could make the most sense as it wouldn’t actually change the matchday experience that much.

Andrea Radrizzani is planning multiple changes at Elland Road in the years to come, including expansion, so this shouldn’t take too long to green light and produce – bring it on.
