Phil Hay: Leeds ‘committed’ to signing in-form attacker in 2021 in eight-figure deal
Leeds United are “committed” to signing Man City loanee Jack Harrison on a permanent deal next summer, according to Phil Hay.
Leeds had an option to sign him last summer but opted instead to getting him back on another season-long loan instead.
Harrison’s price has gone up in the new deal and the attacker will now cost Leeds £10m.
Phil Hay was responding to The Athletic’s Man City correspondent Sam Lee on Twitter.
Lee had been asked by a Man City fan if “Jack Harrison [will] ever be given a chance at City? He’s terrific.”
Harrison hit (and occasionally miss)
Harrison is on fire at the moment and put in his performance of the season against Newcastle.
He needed it, though. He was hauled off at half-time in the previous game when Leeds lost to West Ham and some fans thought he’d be dropped for the game in midweek.
Instead, he notched an assist and scored a goal-of-the-season contender.
He was given a mighty 8.36 rating on WhoScored in the game against Newcastle and is worth way more than £10m based on that performance.
In fact, if he could reproduce that form week-in, week-out, he would be one of the best wingers in the Premier League and we’re sure Pep would be getting his legal men to see if there was a way out of the Leeds deal.
Harrison is improving all the time under Bielsa but at 24 he’s at his peak now. What he needs to do is focus on his end product and play with confidence.
The fact that Leeds are “committed” to the deal is great news and we’ll be very happy to see him as a permanent Leeds player – finally.
As far as we’re concerned – and we know a lot of Leeds fans feel the same – he already is a permanent Leeds player.
