Phil Hay: Kristoffer Klaesson now injured with ankle knock, should make Leeds United squad v Wolves

Leeds United goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson has now picked up an injury with an ankle knock, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist has reported that the Norweigian stopper should be fit for the Premier League opener against Wolves, although Illan Meslier will obviously start.

Klaesson shined at Molineux in the 3-2 win last season, coming off the bench after an injury to Meslier, although transfers are now being eyed.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Hay shared the latest news regarding other injuries in the squad ahead of the season opener this weekend.

“Klaesson has an ankle knock but will be fit for the Wolves game,” he wrote.

“Marsch, though, is indicating that more experienced goalkeeping back-up for Meslier will be signed before the end of the window. Suggested we’ll see an incoming next week.”

No issues.

This will cause no problems for the squad, but it could mean everything for Klaesson.

Graham Smyth has already reported in the past 24 hours that a deal for Joel Robles will go through in the next week as Victor Orta brings in an experienced head.

That means that Klaesson will be under pressure to keep his number two spot, so dealing with an issue when the Spaniard potentially arrives would put him on the back foot instantly.

Jesse Marsch has eyed an experienced head in that department and with Kiko Casilla leaving the club after a mutual termination, that has opened the door.

Now, Klaesson will likely learn a lot from the new keeper, but we believe that he will drop down the pecking order and possibly play a lot more under-21 football from now on.

He should be in the squad against Wolves to make the numbers, but there will be nothing more than that this season for the young stopper, much to his disappointment.
