Phil Hay issues update on Tyler Adams release clause at Leeds United

Phil Hay has made a fresh claim about Tyler Adams’ release clause at Leeds United post their relegation from the Premier League.

The Athletic journalist reported [28 July] that the clause for the United States international was bought for around £20million last summer and his release clause is understood to be in that region.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on his Here We Go podcast on 27 July that there is a concrete chance the 24-year-old leaves this summer.

Convince him to stay

With clauses like this one, clubs are powerless to resist any offers that come in as if the valuation is met, it’s down to the player.

Adams knows that he’s not at the level of the Championship but unlike the players that have left, he does not seem like someone who’ll abandon ship after one year.

While it may not have been a good season for Leeds, personally, the United States captain took his game to the next level.

Even at the World Cup, he was in top form and undoubtedly, his valuation has hiked since then.

Leeds being in the Championship means that they cannot get full value for his services and if they can convince him to stay then that’ll be a boon.

His injury may also play some part in keeping him at the club so it remains to be seen if clubs will take a gamble on his fitness.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign two centre-backs this summer with a winger now on the radar as well.
