Phil Hay issues update on two behind-the-scenes Leeds United deals with talks ongoing

Leeds United are looking to extend the association of Nick Hammond and former Celtic Head of Recruitment Gary Penrice, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported on Wednesday (11 October) that despite Hammon’s interim period ending with the closure of the transfer window, discussions have taken place over extending his stay.

Both him and Penrice are mooted to be at Elland Road for the next two transfer windows should discussions end positively.

Good news

Hammond did not arrive to much fanfare and the feeling was that he’d be a stopgap option to help out with the new manager process and also the new ownership.

However, come the end of the window, few can raise questions over his application in the market and the signings made were pretty impressive.

Victor Orta was often criticised for his shoddy work in the window, and despite it being just one opportunity to judge him, Hammond came out with flying colours.

One cannot discount the impact Penrice has had either as he also played a key role in helping with the ins and outs at Elland Road.

He’s been the Head of Recruitment at Celtic – 53-time league winners – so it’s fair to say that he’s done a fairly crucial job in Glasgow as well.

Should they keep up the good work, there’s a chance that the hierarchy will ask them to stay beyond the next 12 months as well.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that big European clubs have been keeping tabs on a Whites player for a while and are still willing to sign him.
