Phil Hay issues Leeds United wage clauses comparison to Leicester City after 1-0 win
Phil Hay has revealed the clauses that Leeds United had in place for their players post relegation in comparison to Leicester.
The Whites secured a 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium courtesy of a goal from Georginio Rutter in the second half.
It’s understood that while some of Leeds’ players saw a wage deduction of as much as 60 per cent, such extreme cuts were not faced by the Leicester side.

Hay wrote in the Athletic on 4 November, “Even though they were blindsided by relegation — Leeds’ wage reduction clauses were as high as 60 per cent while Leicester, as relatively recent Premier League champions and FA Cup winners, had nothing like the same contingencies in place — their big departures were dealt with quickly and did their bit for Financial Fair Play (FFP). City’s signings were orderly and none too scrambled.”
Tough situation
What Leicester did not have were ridiculous clauses that allowed their players to leave on loan if the full salary was paid.
This saw a number of Leeds players abandon ship and move to clubs in Europe.
Players like Max Wober, who looked like they were set to stay put at Elland Road, left after the season began which was a huge blow.

Daniel Farke surely would’ve built his squad with Wober in mind and he would then have to enter the market for a new centre-back.
Joe Rodon has proven to be a good signing but things were certainly easier at Leicester and they did not have a takeover ongoing as well.
Hopefully, Friday night’s win gives Leeds the boost to go on a run and ensure that they finish in the top two this season.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that big European clubs have been keeping tabs on a Whites player for a while and are still willing to sign him.
