Phil Hay issues Leeds United transfer update on Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow after signing Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea
Phil Hay has issued an update as Leeds United now look to accelerate their pursuit of Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow after signing Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea.
According to the Athletic journalist [19 July], with the announcement of Ampadu, the Whites’ focus is now on signing a new shot stopper.
Darlow is understood to be very high on their shortlist as Daniel Farke aims to bring in a new number one this summer.

He wrote, “Ampadu’s arrival is likely to switch attention to finding a new goalkeeper, with Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow very high on the list of options.”
Good news
Now that the takeover has been green-lit and the first signing is already through the door, Leeds’ summer activity is finally underway.
They’re seeming to waste no time after signing Ampadu and their eyes have now turned to another Premier League club.
Darlow is deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park and Newcastle’s loss could very well prove to be Leeds’ gain.

It remains to be seen what this means for Illan Meslier as the Frenchman was not in the best of form towards the back end of the 2022/23 season.
He lost his number one berth to Joel Robles and continues to be linked with the exit door at Elland Road this summer.
If he’s willing to fight for his spot in the team then Farke might keep him on but if he feels he can play top-flight football elsewhere, an exit cannot be ruled out.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have now reached a personal agreement to secure a multi-million signing this summer.
