Phil Hay: Ezgjan Alioski likely to leave Leeds this summer
Phil Hay has insisted that Ezgjan Alioski is still likely to leave Leeds United despite last-minute talks with Victor Orta.
The Macedonian crashed out of EURO 2020 this week, with his contract set to expire at the start of July at Elland Road.
Hay reported that Orta came out of his meeting with Alioski confident that he would stay, although nothing has been announced since.
Speaking on the Phil Hay Show after months away, the Athletic reporter shared the major update that will leave the Whites needing replacements.
“It’s very difficult to call,” he said.
“At the end of the season, Leeds felt fairly confident that he would sign because he’d indicated to them that he’d be going but there were further talks with Victor Orta.
“Orta came away from that very hopeful that Alioski might turn a bit and would think he is better off staying. There has been no movement since then.
“At the moment, I would sway to him going elsewhere.”
Hay is back, and it looks as though he isn’t able to deliver good news regarding the future of Alioski.
It has been the ongoing saga of the summer, with the left-back looking likely to stay one moment, and the next probable to leave.
With only one week until his deal expires at Elland Road, we are starting to grow confident that he won’t be here next season.
Numerous offers appear to be on the table, and the sooner one of them or even Leeds announce a deal, the better.
We all know that Alioski is a modern-day hero at Elland Road, but let’s be honest, he could easily be replaced by someone much better.
