Phil Hay drops Leeds United team news v Wolves: Liam Cooper trains, Luis Sinisterra and Adam Forshaw out for one more week

Phil Hay has shared the latest injury news in the Leeds United squad ahead of the Premier League opener against Wolves on Saturday afternoon (06 August).

The Athletic journalist has shared that Liam Cooper is now back in training at Thorp Arch after missing the entirety of pre-season through a sore Achilles problem.

The bad news is that Luis Sinisterra still has one week of recovery left from his hamstring issue, with Adam Forshaw also out for another week.

Writing in his latest column for The Athletic, Hay shared the latest injury news coming from Thorp Arch ahead of the new season kicking off this weekend.

“For a change, it’s good news on the injury front,” he wrote.

“Liam Cooper — unable to play in any of Leeds’ friendlies — should resume training today (Monday 1st). Luis Sinisterra is due to return in a week or so, as is Adam Forshaw.

“Firpo and Luke Ayling are a fortnight away. Which leaves Stuart Dallas and his long-term femur issue. In short, if the comebacks follow the schedule, Marsch’s squad will be borderline full-strength in very little time at all.”

Light on Options?

Having Sinisterra out is a big blow, with the Colombian coming in as our big-money Raphinha replacement, but at least he should be back available for the trip to Southampton.

The same applies for Forshaw, with Jesse Marsch surely desperate to have some sort of depth in midfield behind Marc Roca and Tyler Adams in those holding roles.

Junior Firpo and Luke Ayling returning in two weeks is excellent news too, with the defence looking stacked if a new left-back is also signed in that time frame.

Leeds are not in a bad spot and should be back at full strength, minus Stuart Dallas, in a matter of no time, something we haven’t said in months, maybe even years.

All eyes are on those available though, with the excitement now really starting to grow around Elland Road as we get ready to do it all over again.

Bring it on.
