Phil Hay delivers Augustin update as Rob Price confirms striker at Thorp Arch for treatment

In an interview with Rob Price, head of medicine and performance at Leeds United, Phil Hay has said that Jean-Kevin Augustin is getting “face-to-face treatment” at Thorp Arch as he searches for full fitness following his hamstring strain.

The majority of Augustin’s teammates are training from home but Hay has said that there’s no downtime for anyone and that the squad will be ready to go when football resumes.

Price made sure Leeds were as prepared as they could be for the Coronavirus outbreak and held his first discussions about possible disruption back in January.

Following that, exercise packs were put together that contained “aerobic bikes, gym balls, mats, harnesses with GPS trackers and a TRX (total resistance exercises) system to maintain upper body strength.”

These were delivered to the homes of Leeds players after training was suspended at Thorp Arch.

However, while most players are training from home, Hay has said that others require “face-to-face treatment” at Thorp Arch.

In a piece on the Athletic, Hay has revealed that Adam Forshaw is in five days a week as he rehabs from a serious hip injury.

Augustin is another player who is getting special treatment at Thorp Arch, with Hay saying, “Staff there are also working on Jean-Kevin Augustin’s sprint mechanics after his recent hamstring strain.”

Another unnamed player is using the treadmill to avoid the impact of road running.

While Forshaw is getting one-on-one treatment, Augustin is interacting with Thorp Arch staff from a distance.

Augustin has had a slow start to his Leeds career and is still waiting for his first start at Elland Road.

He has made three cameo appearances without scoring a goal and has turned out for the Under-23s too.

However, he hasn’t looked up to speed and sat out the last three Championship games with a hamstring strain.

The last word was that he had recovered from this and Price and his staff are obviously spending time with the striker to try to get his match fitness up ready for the season re-start.

That’s good news and the fact that Price was soo well prepared for the disruption to training bodes very well for the future.

There’s no word on a date for Thorp Arch to re-open, but the Bundesliga are starting to ramp training up in small groups as of today and the latest possible date for training to resume in the UK is April 30.
