Phil Hay details chance of Pablo Hernandez starting for Leeds in huge clash v Fulham

Pablo Hernandez has a “good chance” of making the starting line-up for Leeds United when they take on Fulham this weekend, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported on his personal Twitter account on Friday that Hernandez, 35, is likely to return to Marcelo Bielsa’s XI at Elland Road on Saturday after missing the defeat to Cardiff last week.

The Spanish midfielder was due to have a fitness test ahead of the huge second-versus-third showdown in West Yorkshire and it seems as though the signs are promising despite him missing out last week.

Leeds have won just three of 10 Championship matches without Hernandez this season so having him back in the side is a major boost for Bielsa and Leeds supporters.

It is a shame for Tyler Roberts because he is likely to be dropped to accommodate the returning Hernandez but the young Wales international will surely see the bigger picture when it comes to Bielsa’s team selection.

We do want to see more of Roberts before the season ends and the sooner automatic promotion to the Premier League is mathematically confirmed, the sooner we are likely to see Bielsa mix up his starting line-up a bit and hand fringe players and youngsters the chance to shine.

For some it could be the chance to put themselves in the shop window ahead of next season but for others – like Roberts – it is a chance to show Bielsa why he deserves to be played in the Premier League.
