Phil Hay delivers verdict on Leeds United sensation Archie Gray after AS Monaco clash

Phil Hay has been gushing over Leeds United sensation Archie Gray after watching him in action in the 2-0 defeat against Monaco on Saturday, 22 July.

The 17-year-old has been tipped to make his senior debut for the Whites on numerous occasions but is yet to make a bow for the first team.

The Athletic journalist, speaking on the Square Ball, believed he appears to be close to taking that step up given his physicality and how good he is technically.

He said at 03:52, “Archie Gray, looks like he’s developing at a really quick rate and there’s this temptation with Gray, I think, to start wondering if he can be having quite a big impact this season and whether it might be sort of a breakthrough moment for him. Physically, technically, he looks very close. He’s clearly got massive talent as well.”

He’s ready

Playing along side Ethan Ampadu against a quality Monaco side, Gray managed to stand out on occasion and it surely would’ve surprised many to note he’s yet to make his senior debut.

It looks like in the Championship he’s got to be given games as he might grow frustrated if he does not.

Leeds fans have been wanting to see him be given minutes on numerous occasions as he has travelled with the first team as well.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke

Daniel Farke surely would’ve been impressed by what he saw from the teenager and hopefully, he features more in pre season as well.

It can be argued that if Gray moves to a lower-half Championship side on loan, he could get 15-20 appearances per season.

Playing as an impact sub for Leeds, thus, cannot be ruled out, and it remains to be seen if Farke feels the same way about him.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have agreed on personal terms to secure their next signing after Ethan Ampadu.
