Leeds United winger Raphinha could be drawing interest from bigger clubs according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.
Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on the Brazilian and Hay suggested he will be on the radar of multiple clubs.
He is impressed by Raphinha’s performances this term and gave his perspective on the prospect of him leaving Elland Road.
Speaking on The Phil Hay Show, he said (13:15), “There’s a lot of talk and the narrative around him at the moment has suddenly become, how long will Leeds be able to hang on to him.
“I don’t know whether that’s premature. I don’t know whether it’s a bit excessive.
“There will be clubs keeping tabs on him, because why wouldn’t you?
“He is that good but I think that does say something about the impact he’s had.
“The fact that people can see already that if sides further up the elite pyramid than Leeds at the moment were keen and had the money, then they might well be tempted.”
Up to Bielsa
Marcelo Bielsa could play an important role in Raphinha’s future for several reasons.
Firstly, the Argentine may be able to persuade the 24-year-old to stay at Elland Road.
He has already improved in his short time at Leeds and Bielsa has played a huge role in his development.
If Raphinha is keen to progress he may see Elland Road as the best place for him.
The fact we have not seen any key players lured away in recent years shows what the players think of Bielsa, and indicates a belief in Andrea Radrizzani’s project.
That means Raphinha may be persuaded to stay even if a so-called ‘bigger’ club makes an approach for him.
The only important players we have let go under Bielsa are Kemar Roofe and Pontus Jansson, but the Whites boss was happy to let the duo depart.
We got better after Roofe and Jansson left, and we trust Bielsa to come up with an effective alternative for Raphinha if the worst were to happen.
We should be doing all we can to hold onto our best players, though.
