Phil Hay delivers transfer update after Leeds contact Watford over move for Andre Gray

Leeds United fans can cross another striker off the shortlist for January after Phil Hay said that Watford have said no to a move for Andre Gray.

Hay said the question was asked by Leeds, “But from what I’m told, Watford said no.”

Hay delivered the update on his Twitter account on Tuesday morning.

That leaves Che Adams as not only the number one target, but the only target we know about at the moment.

Hay has said this is Marcelo Bielsa’s choice at the moment. He said, “The list of options was put to Bielsa, after analysis, decided he wanted Adams. So Leeds have been pursuing that one.”

This is all well and good, until Southampton officially knock Leeds back over Adams.

If that happens, the state of play suddenly looks pretty unhealthy.

Of the players who Leeds have been linked for this January, Billy Sharp has reportedly told Chris Wilder that he wants to stay at Sheffield United.

Yohan Boli has officially moved to Al-Rayyan Sports Club.

John Percy has said that Newcastle are willing to let Dwight Gayle go on loan but want a permanent obligation of £20m if the club he goes to gets promoted. We can’t see that happening at Leeds, especially as he’s currently got a hamstring issue.

We’ve no doubt that Leeds have other targets behind the scenes but we’ve not heard of any other names from our sources, or reputable journalists such as Hay.

It’s getting near squeaky bum time.
