Phil Hay: Daniel James to travel to Leeds United tonight
Manchester United ace Daniel James will travel to Yorkshire tonight (Monday) ahead of signing for Leeds United, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist reports that Leeds are on the verge of signing James, 23, in a deal worth an initial £25million plus add-ons.
It is understood that James is now on his way to Leeds to undergo a medical and put the finishing touches to his move to Elland Road.
Out of the blue?
Every suggestion prior to Monday was that Marcelo Bielsa was done with his business for the summer.
A lot of fans were a bit underwhelmed by the fact that Junior Firpo could have bee the only new addition to Bielsa’s starting line-up with Kristoffer Klaesson also coming in but as a second-choice goalkeeper.
But now, it looks as though we’re about to sign a proven Premier League winger who’s also a full international, played in the Champions League and the European Championships and is someone who Bielsa really likes.
What a signing this is going to be.
It remains to be seen how James will slot into the side due to his versatility but we can imagine it’ll take a while before he displaces someone.
For starters, we can expect James to be an impact substitute but once he gets to grips with the system, he could be challenging Jack Harrison and even Raphinha for their spots in the starting line-up.
It sounds crazy to think that their spots in the side could be under threat after how well they did last season but there’s no doubt that Bielsa’s wanted James for some time after what happened in February 2019.
He’s going to cost a lot of money but Bielsa is finally getting his man – barring any late hiccups.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are expecting this midfielder to leave permanently as James arrives.
