Phil Hay: Cysencio Summerville restrained after post-match scuffle in Leeds United v Coventry

Crysencio Summerville had to be restrained after a scuffle with Coventry midfielder Kasey Palmer following the 1-1 draw for Leeds United at Elland Road, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported via his Twitter account [16 December] that Summerville was involved in an ongoing argument with Palmer as tempers boiled over following the final whistle.

Hay then shared that Coventry boss Mark Robins got hold of his star to pull him away from the handbags which turned into a melee of players from both sides.

Tempers boiling over

Summerville was repeatedly fouled throughout the game as Coventry looked to stop him from causing trouble for their defence – a tactic that ultimately failed as the Dutchman scored the hosts’ only goal. It did, however, work in winding him up.

At several stages in the game, Summerville found himself in arguments, whether they were with opposition players or the referee, he was clearly unsettled, and it’s no surprise tempers boiled over following the final whistle.

He has been repeatedly one of the more harshly treated players in the division, often kicked and fouled but not often protected from these issues – as is often the case with exciting flair players at this level, but today saw his frustrations finally lash out.

A disappointing result at home will have done nothing to quell both Summerville’s and the fans’ annoyances following the game, but everyone must settle and move on. Dwelling on the anger will not help anybody.
