Phil Hay: Bielsa presently funding new gym equipment at Thorp Arch
Marcelo Bielsa has been funding new gym equipment at Leeds United training ground, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
The Argentine head coach recently penned a contract extension ahead of his fourth season at Elland Road, and has been overseeing some developments behind the scenes.
Bielsa is one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League, and has apparently been giving back to Leeds like he has done with some of his old clubs.
Hay wrote on The Athletic website: “There is an altruistic streak in him that, alongside a mammoth salary, looks for others to benefit from his work.
“It was his money that paid for a new training facility at Newell’s Old Boys in 2018.
“It is his money that is presently funding new gym equipment at Thorp Arch, bought specifically for the rank-and-file staff.”
Class
Providing Thorp Arch with new gym equipment is not part of Bielsa’s responsibilities, but he has gone out of his way to get things done, and this man just never stops impressing us.
Leeds will always count themselves lucky to have such a world-class manager, and he has continued to be top class on and off the pitch.
He has already made Yorkshire his home, staying back during the off-season to continue his work, and we hope we can retain his services for a couple of seasons.
The Whites are looking to break into Europe soon, and we have got the perfect man for the job without a doubt.
The fans and board love him, and he absolutely deserves it.
Bielsa always wants the best for the club, and it is not particularly surprising that he will opt to bring out money from his pocket to oversee some of the changes he wants instead of asking the club.
