Phil Hay: Andrea Radrizzani needs to invest heavily in Leeds next season if he wants Europe

Andrea Radrizzani has made it no secret that he would like to bring European football back to Leeds United.

The Italian has taken the Whites back to the Premier League already, and has introduced valuable investment from the San Francisco 49ers.

Phil Hay has insisted that Leeds and Radrizzani will need much more investment next summer to make it a much more busier summer window if they want Europe.

Writing in the comments section of his latest piece for The Athletic, Hay shared what to expect next summer.

“What I’m starting to feel now is that if this season is going to be a slog (and it looks like it will be) now is the time to start seriously thinking about what to do next summer,” he said.

“Investment in the squad will definitely be needed because Radrizzani is the one who keeps talking about Europe. It’s seems like next summer should be so much more active than this one.”

No brainer.

After the disappointing start to the Premier League this season, it is hard not to look at our clear failures in the transfer window.

It has been clear for nearly two years now that the Whites have been crying out for another central midfielder, yet the options to Marcelo Bielsa are threadbare in that area.

Stuart Dallas wasn’t even a midfielder when Bielsa arrived, and now he is one of our first-choice players in that area.

Victor Orta and Radrizzani know that too, just look at failed moves for Lewis O’Brien and Mikael Cuisance in the last two summer windows.

Squad depth is desperately needed at Elland Road, especially if Radrizzani and the club want European football as much as they say they do.
