PGMOL make formal contact with Leeds United after recent controversy

Leeds United have received a formal apology from the PGMOL for a controversial incident in the draw with Preston, according to Beren Cross.

The Whites secured a 1-1 draw in the final moments of the contest but the hosts should have been reduced to ten men much earlier.

Ben Whiteman was already on a booking when his reckless challenge caught Jayden Bogle on the shin but was not given his marching orders.

Now, Cross reports [23 December] that the refereeing body and referee John Busby have apologised to the Elland Road club for the error.

Apology will not make Leeds United feel better

An apology will not give the Whites the three points that they likely would have come away with had Preston been reduced to ten men.

In a title and promotion race that will probably go right down to the wire, the decision could jeopardise Daniel Farke’s side massively in the long run.

However, the draw was not solely down to a poor refereeing decision, as Illan Meslier could have done better to prevent the opener and Joel Piroe was wasteful in front of goal.

Farke must ensure that his side does not dwell on that decision and move on their focus to the future and securing promotion.

Leeds have to concentrate on things that they can control and try to win as many matches as they possibly can.

They bounced back from the draw with Preston to hammer relegation-threatened Oxford United on Saturday (21 December) and must continue that momentum.
