BBC Radio Leeds presenter laughs at what Leeds United fans did prior to FA Cup tie vs Peterborough United

BBC presenter Jonathan Buchanan shared details on air of what Leeds United supporters forced a Peterborough United figure to do ahead of their FA Cup third-round tie.

Leeds fans were in fine voice at The Weston Homes Stadium on Sunday (7 January), with the away end completely packed out.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds [7 January, 01:57pm], Buchanan chuckled as he explained the travelling fans were so loud before kick-off that the hosts had to turn up the sound system.

“I’ve just been watching the pitch announcer. He’s been gesturing up to the booth to tell them to turn up the PA system,” Buchanan said.

“That’s because the Leeds fans have been belting out Marching On Together constantly. He wants it turned up so people can hear the music and not make it sound like a Leeds home game.”

Presence felt

The annoying change of date for this fixture did little to put off Leeds fans, who sold out their full 4,000 allocation not long after the tickets went on sale.

Peterborough fans also snapped up every ticket available, meaning a sell-out and a great atmosphere for the early-round cup tie.

This game just goes to show that the magic of the FA Cup is still alive and well, regardless of what some may tell you.

It should come as no surprise, though, that the away end was sold out. Leeds travel in their numbers and this five-hour round journey was no exception.

Despite the hosts’ best efforts, the away fans continued chanting the club’s famous anthem and made sure their presence was felt for this first away trip of 2024.
